  • Abstract:
A typical construction project team comprises the clients, consultants, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. It is important to have high team integration so that members can work effectively to bring about project success. The aims of this study are: (1) to compare the views of contractors, clients and consultants on trust-related factors facilitating and deterring team integration; and (2) to investigate the role of trust in increasing team integration. Structured questionnaires were sent by post to randomly selected construction industry players in Singapore, to assess the importance of factors that enable team integration, as well as the barriers that impede team integration. The results show that there are many trust related factors that facilitate team integration. These include selecting team members who have prior and ongoing relationships, good reputation and effective communication skills. It is recommended that clients assemble project teams comprising members who are capable and also have good relationships with each other, since these factors help in engendering trust and increasing team integration.
